Seminar

Advanced Freediving Skills

Take your freediving to the next level with advanced techniques for relaxation, breath-hold training, deep diving, and performance optimization. This seminar explores structured training methods, deep diving procedures, safety protocols, and the skills required for more demanding freediving environments.

Contents

Preparation before entering the water

  • Stretching: Value, preferred ways, warm-up before stretching and five stretching techniques you can use as a freediver.
  • Breathing: Two breathing techniques that can help relaxation.
  • Relaxation: Four mental techniques that can help relaxation.

Confined Water Skills

  • Three skills to practice in confined water that will help refine our freediving.
  • The role of a buddy for a freediver during static apnea.
  • Static apnea carbon dioxide and oxygen training tables.
  • The purpose of training with tables.
  • How do you create and use static training tables.
  • The role of a buddy for a freediver during dynamic apnea.
  • The dynamic versions of carbon dioxide and oxygen tables.

Deep Freediving – Open Water Skills

  • Adjusting the buoyancy before each dive
    • How to apply the rule of neutral buoyancy (at two thirds of the depth) in deep diving.
    • The zones of similar buoyancy at the depth of 10 to 20 meters.
  • The Preparation for a deep freedive
    • The active body relaxation: The mental technique of the “bright and warm bar” which “scans” the body
    • Mental active relaxation (concentration): Five minutes of yoga meditation methods.
  • The moves to descend in a deep freedive.
  • The moves to ascend in a deep freedive.
  • The role of the safety diver in deep freediving.
  • Designing a deep freediving plan, a series of dives and a day of deep freediving.
  • Other open water skills:
    • The six types of freediving competition.
    • The warm-up and the workup dives and how we sequence them.
    • How to use a freediving computer.
    • The considerations to have in mind when choosing sites for deep freediving.

Learning outcomes

Participants will learn:

  • Effective stretching and warm-up routines for freediving
  • Advanced breathing and relaxation techniques
  • How to use CO₂ and O₂ training tables safely and effectively
  • Confined water exercises that improve freediving performance
  • Advanced buoyancy control for deeper dives
  • Mental preparation and concentration techniques for deep freediving
  • Efficient descent and ascent procedures
  • The responsibilities of the safety diver
  • Planning and organizing deep freediving sessions
  • The fundamentals of competition freediving and dive sequencing
  • Proper use of freediving computers in training and deep diving

This seminar is designed for freedivers who have mastered the fundamentals and wish to improve their depth, efficiency, safety awareness, and overall diving performance through structured advanced training.
